Granada - Trevélez - Busquístar - La Tahá - Bubión - Granada
“MORISCO” COUNTRY: Trevélez River, Busquístar, Atalbéitar, Ferreirola, Mecina Fondales, Pitres... Ride from one village to the next on ancient cattle trails and mountain tracks. Making use of forgotten paths used by travellers of times gone by, you will discover the spirit, history and landscapes of a unique region called “The Alpujarra”.
The Alpujarra is an ideal region for walking holidays in Sapin. It is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada and is dotted with tiny villages that cling to the mountainsides or nestle in deep valleys that look south towards the Mediterranean.
Its unique geography and fascinating history (where the Granada “Moriscos” played such a vital role in their rebellion against the all-powerful Philip II), make this an area replete with depth, colour, beauty, legend and romance. Come and hike through it, lodging at the end of each day in tranquil country hotels in three different villages: Trevélez – the Iberian Peninsular’s highest, famous for its traditional ham-curing; Busquístar – whose name means “hidden Moorish paradise”; Bubión, our last stop, located in the gorgeous Poqueira valley.
